Yakumo Ezo (蝦夷(えぞ) 夜(や)雲(くも), Ezo Yakumo) is a supporting character in Mato Seihei no Slave.

She currently serves as Chief of the Anti-Demon Corps's' 5th Unit.

Appearance

Yakumo is an attractive young woman in her mid-20s. She has short black hair with purple highlights, and red eyes. Yakumo also has a buxom figure, with large breasts and a toned body.

Her version of the Anti-Demon Corps uniform is more informal. She wears a cropped version of the uniform jacket, and a white cropped undershirt, revealing her midriff. She usually wears her jacket with only the collar buttoned, and rolls up her sleeves to her elbows.

Yakumo also wears a necklace with a heart-shaped charm beneath her uniform.

Personality

Yakumo is easy-going, upbeat, and friendly. She is on good terms with most of her fellow comrades in the Anti-Demon Corps, and addresses them informally. On their first conversation, Yuuki Wakura compares her to being like the wind - free-spirited and easily distracted. She can also be irresponsible, often relying on her subordinates in the 5th Unit to ensure that they can still function operationally.

However, Yakumo is also notorious within the Anti-Demon Corps for being perverted. Having no sense of personal space, Yakumo often takes any chance she can to grope any of her fellow servicewomen, going as far to find excuses to touch them inappropriately and ogle them in intimate settings. Due to this tendency, she is not allowed to bathe with any other personnel, and is usually tied up while others are taking their baths.

Yakumo has professed that she primarily likes women, and her dream is to form a harem made up of members of the Anti-Demon Corps. However, she takes a liking to Yuuki Wakura upon their first meeting, and becomes curious about how men might compare to women in intimate settings. After granting Yuuki his reward for using 'Lending' with her, Yakumo decides to make an exception for him and invites him to join her future harem.

Background

Yakumo is the eldest child in her family, and she has many younger sisters. She dropped out of high school and enlisted in the Anti-Demon Corps to earn money and support her family. She was competent enough to rise through the ranks and eventually assume leadership of the 5th Unit.

Abilities

As a Unit Chief, Yakumo is more powerful than the rank-and-file members of the Anti-Demon Corps. Through training and experience, Yakumo is an extremely capable combatant, able to defeat a horde of Shuuki in a matter of seconds.

Peach Blessing

Night Storm (常闇舞踏団(ナイト・ストーム), Naito Sutōmu, lit. "Everlasting Darkness Dancing Group"): Yakumo's Peach Blessing allows her to control air. She can generate destructive tornadoes, fly and transport others using wind currents, and shred her enemies using powerful gusts of wind. Yakumo has mastered her power, and has extremely fine control over it.

• Phoenix Wing (無窮の鎖(スレイブ)・鳳翼(ほうよく), Sureibu: Hōyoku, lit. "Eternal Chain: Phoenix Wing"): Yuuki's Slave Form, with Yakumo acting as his master through Lending. Yuuki assumes a more avian form, with feathers across his body and a large pair of wings. He is able to fly at high speeds, and Yakumo can use her powers to increase his speed even further, with his top airspeed exceeding her own. Yuuki can also attack Shuuki from the air by divebombing them.

Physical Abilities

Superhuman Strength: Yakumo is incredibly strong, and is able to fight barehanded against the Shuuki and other enemies.

Superhuman Speed: By using her wind powers, Yakumo can propel herself at superhuman speeds. She uses this power to increase her mobility in battle, allowing her to strike and reposition faster than her enemies can follow.

Superhuman Endurance: Like most Anti-Demon Corps members, Yakumo is extremely resilient and can endure large amounts of damage in combat.

Flexibility: Yakumo is extremely flexible, able to use contortion to escape being bound - like when she was tied up with rope to prevent her from sexually harassing her fellow servicewomen in the bath.

Master Martial Artist: Yakumo is skilled at unarmed combat, and combines it with her powers to defeat enemies within Mato.

Trivia

• Yakumo (夜(や)雲(くも)) uses the kanji for "night" (夜(や), ya) and "cloud" (雲(くも), kumo).
• Ezo (蝦夷(えぞ)) literally translates to "shrimp barbarians", and is the Japanese term used to refer to the people and lands northeast of the Japanese island of Honshu, especially the indigenous Ainu people.
  • Yakumo's last name could be a reference to her birthplace. She is from eastern Hokkaido, which was historically known as "Ezo".
• Yakumo is the first, and so far, only character in the series confirmed to be part of the LGBTQ community.
• In her spare time, Yakumo enjoys watching idol performances, and especially likes supporting female idols.
• Yakumo enjoys being tickled, and is especially ticklish on the soles of her feet.
• According to her Chief's Intel:
  • Yakumo was surprised by how much earlier Tokyo's sunrise happens compared to her hometown.
  • Yakumo's favorite food is hotcakes, dating back to her childhood. She used to share them with her sisters.
  • Yakumo has touched Ren Yamashiro once before - resulting in her sent to the hospital with medium injuries.
  • Yakumo receives the most support from her Vice-Chief, Kaiko Itsuki, in carrying out her duties. If given the chance, though, she will leave her work to someone else to complete.
• In devising her reward, author Takahiro considered the fact that Yakumo's personality was free like the wind, and she is the type of person who would do anything.
