Tobera Azuma (東(あずま)海桐花(とべら), Azuma Tobera) is a member of the Azuma Family and was formerly the family's head before being replaced by her daughter, Fubuki Azuma. She was also the previous Head Commander of the Anti-Demon Corps before Ren Yamashiro took the position.

Appearance

Despite her advanced age, Tobera has the appearance of a young teenage girl (this is presumably related to her Peach Blessing). She has short dark hair, with two locks of hair tied up in braids. She is almost always seen wearing a sailor-style schoolgirl uniform and wears a hairband.

During her previous tenure as Head Commander or when in combat, she wears the standard Anti-Demon uniform that consists of a traditional jacket, a half skirt where one side is short and the other is long, and very long fur-trim epaulettes.

Personality

Tobera has an extremely strict and domineering outlook on life. As head of the Azuma family, she believes that all members of the Azuma family must prove their strength or else be put down to avoid bringing shame to the family. This attitude has disseminated to the other members of the family, including her children and grandchildren.

Believing might makes right, Tobera does whatever she pleases amongst her family. This is best seen where she was willing to force Himari, her own granddaughter to fornicate with Yuuki right in front of others and even expressed the desire to teach them, ignoring the feelings of the heavily reluctant individuals. However, she is not entirely unreasonable as she obeyed Fubuki's command as her own daughter is legally the new head of their clan.

Despite her advanced age, Tobera is also childish as she wore what is essentially a middle-school dress. In addition to that, Tobera is incredibly perverted and lustful, playfully slapped Maia on the butt during combat and expressed the desire to aid her granddaughter in seducing Yuuki using members of her own family. She is also shown to have quite a short temper when people either defy her, point out her faults, or fail her expectations.

Tobera is also noted to love sweets and fights, she also very bold and likes to gamble.

Background

At some point prior to Ren Yamashiro taking the position, Tobera served as the Commander of the Anti-Demon Corps. During her time as Commander, she recruited Bell Tsukiyono to join the Anti-Demon Corps.

Riu Myouga reveals that Tobera lost the election to Ren due to her ego and not getting the votes of the ministers. Tobera admits that she could not handle how the higher ups were constantly making demands and micro-managing the Anti-Demon Corps which resulted in many Mato disasters occurring.

Powers and Abilities

Overview

Tobera is a very capable fighter. Thanks to her Peach blessing, she is able to maintain her youthful physique and prowess despite her advanced age. She has demonstrated remarkable strength and reflexes as seen when she dodged a sneak attack from Kuusetsu and then grabbed hold of her. Despite her strength and being the previous Commander of the Anti-Demon Corp, she has gotten somewhat lazy in her retirement which resulted in her daughter Fubuki Azuma easily defeating her when she tried to push her granddaughters into producing children for the Azuma Family.

Peach Blessing

Transience (東の星霜(うたかた), Utakata, lit. "East Star Frost"): Her Peach Blessing appears to allow her to absorb the vital energy of other beings, being able to accelerate or reverse the age of living things, including herself. Although she is old enough to be a grandmother, Tobera has the appearance of a teenage girl. Also, she has shown to be able to grow a small sprout into a full grown flower and then cause it to wither in a matter of seconds. She can also use her ability to accumulate vital energy and transfer it to other beings to accelerate their regeneration. She can siphon energy from others via direct contact or from a distance, although the latter method appears to require time for preparation.

Enhanced Speed: Tobera has shown considerable speed and reflexes, in which she was able to quickly evade the ambush attempt of the Thunder God Kuusetsu.

Enhanced Durability: As the former Commander of the Anti-Demon Corps, Tobera possessed incredible durability. She managed to tank an attack from Fubuki's spear and stand up, fully conscious with only few drops of blood.

• Tobera hides her identity to make friends with younger girls and hang out with them.
• She has a soft spot for young men.
• The idea of changing the head of the Azuma Family came by when Riu Myouga decided to step down as 1st Unit Chief.
• Even though Fubuki changed the family's policy regarding men, Tobera still encourages her granddaughters to associate intimately with men who bring power to the Azuma family, directing the spotlight towards Yuuki Wakura.
