Birth of a Slave

After a Mato disaster, Kyouka Uzen, Chief of the Anti-Demon Corps 7th Unit, recruits Yuuki Wakura as a "slave" for her Slave ability, and as the 7th Unit's caretaker. Upon Yuuki's arrival at the 7th Unit dorm, Nei welcomes him politely though somewhat awkwardly. While the others give Yuuki menial tasks to complete, Nei stays and offers to support him, while also informing him that she is only eleven years old.

Later, after a Shuuki appears outside the 7th Unit dorm and is destroyed by the barrier, Nei explains to Yuuki that the 7th Unit is located at the Southwestern Demon Gate and, therefore, many Shuuki are prone to showing up around them. She further explains the geography of Mato and the layout of the Anti-Demon Corps dorms. Afterwards, Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit enjoy a meal that has been prepared by Yuuki and they praise his cooking skills, though they give him more chores to do afterwards. This results in Yuuki angrily protesting his position in the 7th Unit and Himari Azuma threatening him in response. However, Kyouka sternly informs Nei and the others that Yuuki is her responsiblity and she will handle him if he acts up.

Suddenly, Nei detects the appearance of a gate via her Promise ability, and Kyouka orders the 7th Unit to head out to the site. As Nei, Himari, and Shushu Suruga go on ahead, Kyouka and Yuuki quickly catch up after Yuuki transforms into his Slave form with Kyouka riding him, which Nei is greatly impressed by. By the time Nei, Himari, and Shushu arrive at the gate, a large swarm of Shuuki have appeared, and Himari and Shushu quickly defeat most of them. The gate then disappears, prompting Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit to return to the dorm. After returning to the dorm, another swarm of Shuuki appear just outside the dorm and attack, but Kyouka, Yuuki, Himari, and Shushu are able to defeat them.

Later, Nei and Himari are unknowingly seen by Yuuki while they are bathing in the hot spring, which results in Shushu blackmailing him. Some time aftewards, Nei informs Yuuki that she, Kyouka, and Himari will be leaving for a meeting, leaving Yuuki and Shushu alone to watch the dorm. Yuuki is dismayed, but Nei tells him that Shushu is a nice person. By the time Nei and the others return from the meeting, Shushu and Yuuki have resolved the blackmail incident without Nei or anyone else ever finding out.

Some time later, while Kyouka and Yuuki are away in the human world, Nei detects large crater where a nest of Shuuki have gathered. After Kyouka is notified and returns to Mato with Yuuki, she decides that they will destroy the nest. While Kyouka, Yuuki, Himari, and Shushu leave to destroy the nest, Nei stays behind at the 7th Unit dorm. Kyouka and the others manage to defeat the Shuuki, but have a fateful encounter with a mysterious girl (who Yuuki's suspects may be his sister) and the One-Horned Shuuki that destroyed Kyouka's village. After they return to the dorm, Nei notices that Yuuki is distracted as he prepares food in the kitchen. She attempts to console him and praises his performance on the battlefield. She then offers to finish up the cooking for him, but Yuuki happily insists he do it himself and thanks Nei for being such a good superior to him.

The Mato Exhibition Games

The 7th Unit is visited by Tenka Izumo, Chief of the 6th Unit, and Yachiho Azuma, Vice Chief of the 6th Unit. Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit gather in a meeting room with the 6th Unit to discuss the Humanoid Shuuki that the 7th Unit recently encountered. During the meeting, Yachiho belittles Himari (her sister), which leads to Kyouka proposing that the 7th and 6th Units have an exhibition match. Tenka agrees and she and Yachiho depart.

On the day of the exhibition match Nei and the 7th and 6th Unit members gather to face off, agreeing to go with one-on-one matches. Ginna Bizen from the 10th Unit introduces herself as the referee for the match and uses her Ginna Club ability to create a dome around them, which will heal them and protect them from outside intruders. Although Nei will not participate in the matches as she is a non-combatant, she dresses up and brandishes a banner to help cheer on her team. The games begin with Himari (assisted by Yuuki) going up against Yachiho for the first match. Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit cheer Himari and Yuuki on during her match and, ultimately, they prevail, defeating Yachiho. Before the next match, Kyouka has Nei scan Mato for anything unusual, but she finds nothing. The second match begins with Shushu going up against Sahara Wakasa. Although she fights valiantly, Shushu is ultimately defeated by Sahara. Nei and Yuuki rush to support Shushu after her loss.

Aferwards, Kyouka asks Nei to examine Mato again, but this time Nei discovers a mysterious dark-haired girl and winged woman. As Nei examines the girl, she seems to look back at her with a fearsome glare and tells her to tell the others that the "battle" is about to begin. Suddenly, a swarm of Shuuki and a mysterious figure identifying himself as Rairen appear and break down Ginna's barrier. Tenka then takes Nei and Ginna to safety inside the dorm while the rest of the 7th Unit and the 6th Unit battle the intruders. Ginna becomes upset that she cannot watch the other Anti-Demon Corps members fight, but Nei offers Ginna to touch her, which will allow her to see the battle outside via her Promise ability. Ginna heartily accepts and relishes the experience as she watches the others fight, though Nei is somewhat disturbed by her enthusiasm. Ultimately, the 7th and 6th Units are able to defeat and fend off Rairen and the Shuuki. Afterwards, Nei and the rest 7th Unit, the 6th Unit and Ginna gather outside. When Kyouka remarks that Nei identified two other enemy commanders, Nei apologizes for not finding the enemies in time, but Kyouka and Tenka console her, assuring her she did all she could.

Later, Nei draws a picture of the two enemy commanders she saw and shows it to Yuuki and Himari. Yuuki confirms that neither of them appear to be his sister.

Tenka's Desire

At the 7th Unit dorm, Nei identifies an approaching Shuuki. Having gone to fetch Yuuki, Shushu, and subsequently the rest of the 7th Unit, discover that Tenka had entered the dorm covertly to seduce him. Tenka apologizes for the disturbance and Kyouka uses Yuuki to quickly dispatch the attacking Shuuki.

7th Unit Training

On Kyouka's orders, Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit gather outside the dorm to test the extent of the Slave ability on Yuuki by taking turns riding him via lending. Nei goes first and Yuuki transforms into the Slave: Sparkling Stars form, which greatly enhances his senses and, embarrassingly, allows him to see through the other girls' clothes. After Yuuki changes back to normal, Nei gives him a kiss on the cheek as his reward, which greatly embarrasses her, but shows that even those who "borrow" Yuuki must reward him. Kyouka apologizes to Nei for not warning her about the reward requirement and Nei in turn apologizes to Yuuki, believing he may not have liked her kissing him so suddenly, but Yuuki replies that he was fine with it. Nei gratefully expresses her admiration for him. Shushu goes next and Yuuki transforms into his Slave: Boulder Melter form. Though the form is very powerful, it is also very slow and Kyouka believes they will have limited use for it. The session ends with Kyouka deciding that they will focus on training Yuuki's form with Nei and work on Shushu's form on occasion.

Later, Nei gets ready to travel to the human world to attend school and, after getting Kyouka's approval, Yuuki accompanies her. The two arrive in Shikoku and Yuuki observes that it must be hard for Nei to go to school while also working for the Anti-Demon Corps, but Nei assures him that she doesn't have to go every day and that the 10th Unit will cover for the 7th Unit in her absence. Nei also explains that working for the Anti-Demon Corps may help her find her parents who went missing in a Mato disaster. She further explains that she believes her Promise ability reflects her desire to find her parents. Nei then tells Yuuki about stories in which family members of Mato disaster victims have received phone calls from the victims (an event that Yuuki has experienced himself), which gives Nei hope for finding her parents. The two then talk about Yuuki's housework skills and Nei confirms that she truly appreciates his work as life has become easier for the 7th Unit since he joined. Nei also tells him about how her foster parents didn't have much time for cleaning and, thus, she helped with the housework whenever she could. Yuuki offers to teach Nei how to do housework and, overwhelmed with gratitude, she gives Yuuki a big hug.

Later, back at the 7th Unit dorm, Nei and Yuuki do housework and are unwittingly spotted by Shushu who begins to see Nei as an obstacle to her relationship with Yuuki.

The Hidden Village

After Kyouka and Yuuki dispatch a group of Shuuki, Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit gather and express their admiration for Yuuki's improvement. He attributes his strength to the lessons his sister gave him and he tells Nei and the others about the tough training she gave him as a kid. Afterwards, Yuuki leaves to take a bath, but Nei suddenly becomes aware of a Mato disaster victim. On Kyouka's orders, Himari and Shushu go to the site to rescue the victim. However, the victim turns out to be a Humanoid Shuuki that lured Himari and Shushu out to attack them. Nei and Kyouka become aware of this and, after seeing that Himari and Shushu are in trouble, Kyouka takes Yuuki and rushes to their aid. While Himari and Shushu manage to retreat, Yuuki is kidnapped by the mysterious Humanoid Shuuki he and Kyouka encountered previously, who turns out to be his sister, Aoba Wakura. Kyouka, Himari, and Shushu return to the 7th Unit dorm to recover and then quickly head back out to rescue Yuuki (along with the 6th Unit) while Nei stays behind to watch the battle.

Kyouka and the others successfully rescue Yuuki, and Nei welcomes them back upon their return to the 7th Unit dorm. Kyouka commends Nei for her work with communications, but Nei says she grew anxious when she couldn't see them after entering the caves the Humanoid Shuuki were located in. Nei suggests Kyouka go to the hot springs to relieve her fatigue and she does so. Nei informs Yuuki that she has prepared some food for him and he thanks her, although he seems distracted. Nei asks what's wrong and Yuuki replies that most of the 6th and Units were hospitalized due to their rescue attempt, but Nei assures him that the Anti-Demon Corps have great healers. Yuuki is still despondent, but Nei amiably orders him to not let his anxiety build up and rest when he needs to. This cheers Yuuki up and he thanks her. Later, Nei is taken to the 10th Unit to provide her report on the battle.

The Chiefs' Assembly

At the 7th Unit dorm, Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit partake of a meal Yuuki has prepared as they celebrate Himari and Shushu's recovery. Kyouka leaves early, remarking that she must get ready for the Chiefs' Assembly.

On the day of the Chiefs' Assembly, Kyouka announces that Yuuki will be joining her for the assembly, much to Nei and the others's surprise. Kyouka explains that it was a sudden request by the commander, and she and Yuuki head out.

After Kyouka and Yuuki return to the 7th Unit dorm, the dorm is infiltrated by the Thunder God, Shikoku, who attempts to abduct Yuuki. Shushu and Tenka manage to fend her off and save Yuuki, but afterwards Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit sleep in same room for better protection until the 7th Unit's barrier is back up. During the night, Nei sleepwalks to Yuuki's bed and hugs him tightly. The next morning, Nei apologizes for going into Yuuki's bed, but Yuuki says the Eight Thunder Gods are to blame for their predicament.

On Kyouka's orders, Nei rides Yuuki to utilize the Slave: Sparkling Stars form to investigate the dorm's surroundings for anything suspicious. Yuuki finds nothing related to the Thunder Gods and reverts back, after which Nei gives him a head pat as a reward. Suddenly, Ren Yamashiro appears, curious about Yuuki's Slave form, and dismisses Nei to go back to her normal duties.

5th Unit Training

Outside the 7th Unit dorm, Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit, as well as the 6th Unit, await the arrival of the 5th Unit as it had been previously decided at the Chiefs' Assembly that the Units should cooperate and train together more. Soon, a large gust of wind appears, indicating the arrival of the 5th Unit. Yakumo Ezo, Kaiko Itsuki, and Saki Tokoyama emerge from the gust and the 7th and 6th Units greet them. The three Units then begin a rigorous session of training. As a non-combatant Nei engages in meditative training with Kaiko.

Once their training is done, Nei and the rest of the girls relax in the hot springs, though Yakumo is notably absent as Kyouka and Tenka have tied her up to prevent her from groping the other girls. As they continue to bathe, Saki looks around cautiously, with Kyouka observing she is probably worried about how quiet Yakumo has been. As Nei and the others leave the bath, they are presumably accosted and groped by Yakumo who was able to escape her bindings.

Later, Nei and the others gather to see the 6th Unit off as they depart, after which Kyouka begrudgingly lends Yuuki to Yakumo.

10th Unit Training

Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit go to the 10th Unit headquarters for training. Inside the building, Kyouka and Yuuki are led to Ren, while Nei and the rest are left behind.

The Azuma Banquet

After Himari is forcefully recruited by her mother, Fubuki Azuma, Chief of the 9th Unit, to participate in the Azuma Banquet, Nei and the rest of the 7th Unit, as well as Tenka, discuss the Azuma Family and the 9th Unit and how the Azuma Family are an incredibly influential family who have served the Anti-Demon Corps for generations. They also discuss Yuuki's training with Ren, which leads to Yuuki fondly recalling a massage Fubuki gave him, prompting Nei and the other girls to try to impress him forcefully by massaging him as well.

Battle in Yokohama

Towards the end of summer, Nei, along with the rest of the 7th Unit (minus Himari) and Tenka, go to the beach for summer break. The group enjoys a relaxing fun-filled day. They retire to a hotel resort for the night.

A few days later, after Yuuki is returned to the 7th Unit dorm after an intense battle in Yokohama, Nei welcomes him back as he wakes up. She informs him that he has been asleep for two days, but is otherwise healthy. Yuuki attempts to get back to work, but Nei orders him to relax. Nei then departs to prepare some food and a bath for Yuuki.
