The Assembly Begins (会議開始, Kaigi Kaishi) is forty-seventh chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.
Summary[]
The Chiefs' meeting of the Anti-Demon Corps begins with all chiefs present. Ren Yamashiro orders that they start with the 1st Unit. Former Chief and current Vice-Chief Riu Myouga announces that she is stepping down as Chief of the 1st Unit for Konomi Tatara to take over. Mira Kamiunten remarks that she's sure Riu can still "dance", but Riu says it is better for the younger generation to take the lead. On Riu's instruction, Konomi vibrantly and enthusiastically introduces herself. Riu tells the other Chiefs that Konomi is her prized disciple and she is confident that she has the talent to eventually become commander. Kyouka Uzen comments that she mustn't let herself fall behind and Ren insists that she will always be the commander. Bell Tsukiyono observes that the mood looks good and hopes it will stay that way. Kyouka, Mira, and Yakumo Ezo also express their desires to become commander. Tenka Izumo wonders why Ren summoned Yuuki Wakura to the meeting. Fubuki Azuma insists that members of the Azuma Family will serve as commanders for generations to come. Varvara Pilipenko remains silent. Ren is pleased that all the chiefs seem to be fired up. Meanwhile, although the mood seems quite cheerful, Yuuki is very nervous.
Ren then moves on to the main topic of the meeting. She presents an image of the three Thunder Gods that the Anti-Demon Corps are aware of; Shikoku, Rairen, and Jouryuu. Yakumo comments that they look cute, but it is problematic that their goal is humanity's destruction. Ren informs them that the black-haired one (Shikoku) defeated the 3rd Unit, the huge one (Jouryuu) injured the 6th and 7th Units, and the last one (Rairen) was defeated by Tenka. Tenka herself comments that she cannot be positive that she killed him. Regardless, Ren states that main takeaway is that even a chief can defeat these "gods". She instructs them that, if any of the eight gods appear, the chiefs must work together to defeat them. Konomi eagerly complies and declares that she will defeat the gods, which pleases Ren. However, Ren also expresses her concerns about the 3rd Unit, stating that their defeat was Bell's fault. Ashamed and nervous, Bell apologizes, but Ren tells her she will put her through some special training, which terrifies Bell. Ren insidiously reminds her that Ginna Bizen's Ginna Club barrier will heal any injuries Bell receives.
Kyouka interjects, arguing that it is not enough to attack responsively, they must come up with a plan to defeat all the Thunder Gods and the Shuuki. Ren is surprised by Kyouka's outburst, but retorts that they still don't know much about the Eight Thunder Gods. She insists that attacking them as they come has proved effective and that number of Mato disasters has decreased since she became chief, thus proving her way is correct. Kyouka is concerned as she realizes the policy will not change, but she drops the subject and takes her seat.
The meeting continues, though Kyouka and Tenka avoid bringing up the Onmyou Agency. Ren then brings up the subject of Yuuki. She informs the others that he is necessary for Kyouka's Slave ability and should be considered as equipment. Yuuki introduces himself, stating that he usually works as the caretaker for the 7th Unit. Tenka applauds him and Fubuki comments that he is cute and wishes she had had at least one boy. Kyouka informs Yuuki that Fubuki is Himari Azuma and Yachiho Azuma's mother, which surprises Yuuki due to Fubuki's youthful appearance.
Ginna barges in on the meeting and informs Ren and the others that there is an emergency. A large Shuuki army as appeared and is rapidly approaching the 10th Unit headquarters. The chiefs watch the footage onscreen and Bell becomes nervous at the size of the army. Yakumo gropes Bell and tells her to relax, but it only makes her more flustered (her actions also unnerve Yuuki and Konomi). Ren contemplates that a large Shuuki army suddenly appearing during the Chiefs' meeting seems quite off. She orders Konomi, Mira, Yakumo, and Fubuki to go out and intercept the army, while the others observe their movements. Ren thinks to herself that, regardless of who the enemy is, she will not forgive them for trying to attack the Anti-Demon Corps headquarters and will punish the enemy leader herself.
