The Election's Conclusion is the one-hundred-and-forty-ninth chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.

Summary[]

Riu announces that Yakumo's vote goes to Ren, tying her and Kyouka's votes. Yakumo contemplates that, since she received no "delectable" experiences and since her line of thinking aligns with Ren, she voted her.

Riu continues, announcing that Reiko's vote goes to Ren and Fubuki's vote goes to Kyouka. Fubuki states that she originally planned to vote for Mira, but also owes a debt to Kyouka for training her daughters. Her vote causes her to lose favor with Ren.

With ten votes counted, the only remaining vote is Bell's. Utterly convinced of her victory, Ren begins to contemplate her acceptance, but is utterly shocked as Riu announces that Bell's vote goes to Kyouka. Livid, Ren glares Bell with an intense aura, but a flustered Bell steels herself and explains that it is not a mistake. Kyouka clarifies that it is because Bell supports Ren more than anyone that she voted against her and cites a discussion she had with her the previous night. Bell continues, explaining that Ren has become too strong and overconfident, dismissing any advice given to her. Bell expresses her fear that this may one day catch up with Ren and result in defeat at the hands of the Thunder Gods, and, therefore, she wanted Ren to understand that she can lose too.

Kyouka states that, since they are in a state of emergency with the Thunder Gods, she will allow Ren to continue to hold the position of Commander until the matter is resolved. However, she also stipulates that Ren must consider her thoughts regarding the Onmyou Agency and how to handle the Gods, which Ren accepts. The election committee formally announces Kyouka as the next Commander of the Anti-Demon Corps.

Later, Bell meets with Ren who appears to be sulking. When Ren says she doesn't wish to talk to her, Bell abruptly grabs her and begins to spank her, declaring that she needs to return to her confident self. Ren struggles and overpowers Bell, but then decides she can't be angry after seeing Bell's crying face. Ren explains that she wasn't sulking and was merely thinking about the meaning of her defeat. Ren admits that, while her defeat amidst her peers was unpleasant, it nevertheless means that the outcome must carry immense weight, which she accepts. Elated that Ren is still moving forward, Bell believes that she has become strongest in the truest sense.
