The Chiefs is the one-hundred-and-fortieth chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.
Summary[]
At midnight in Shangri-La, Konomi and Koko prepare to spar with Riu and Naon observing. As the fight begins, Konomi activates her Beast Power. Knowing she can't fight regularly against a martial artist, Koko goes for a big attack and strikes Konomi with her "Koko Kick" technique, but Konomi blocks it. Koko then uses her Koko Juice to blind Konomi and goes in for an attack, but Konomi blocks her by intuition. Konomi unleashes her "Snake Heavy Whip" technique, which Koko endures via her enhanced healing, hoping that Konomi will soon tire herself out. However, Konomi closes in on Koko and uses her "Coil" technique to bind her, rendering her Koko Juice useless. Konomi then throws Koko to the ground, winning the fight. Naon is greatly impressed by Konomi's strength.
Meanwhile, Iori Yamori, who observed the fight alongside Ren, is assured the Humanoid Shuuki won't be a threat. Ren tells Iori they will figure out what to do about the Humanoid Shuuki and Tenka once they leave Shangri-La and will focus on the election for now. Ren also surmises that Kyouka is likely doing all she can to secure votes.
In the hot springs, Fubuki informs Kyouka that she will not be running in the Commander election. She explains that becoming Commander was always her mother's ambition and, since she is now head of Azuma Family, she wishes to focus on strengthening her familial bonds. Fubuki says she will let the Commander position be her daughters' ambition, which Kyouka agrees is what they've been aiming for.
Later, Kyouka talks with Yakumo about the election while the latter is doing stretches. Yakumo admits she would have no chance of winning the election and casually decides not to run. However, Yakumo says she will likely vote for Ren since she has taken care of her and her sisters. Kyouka asks if Yakumo has any concerns about the concealment of the Onmyou Agency's experiments, but Yakumo admits she wasn't surprised by Ren's actions and further believes that Kyouka would be too straight-laced. Kyouka says that she hopes Yakumo will get to know her better, prompting Yakumo to approach her lasciviously, much to Kyouka's chagrin.
Kyouka then approaches Mira who bemoans that Ren has been acting with a lack of compassion. This being the case, Kyouka asks Mira if she will vote her. Mira responds by asking Kyouka her intentions regarding the Thunder Gods, to which Kyouka replies she does not believe they intend to surrender. Mira explains that, although she understands Kyouka's reasoning, she believes it may be best to make peace with the Gods. Therefore, Mira states her intentions to run for Commander, putting her in competition with Kyouka and Ren.
Some time later, the Chiefs meet with the Election Oversight Committee who announce that the registration period has ended and they have three candidates: Ren Yamashiro, Kyouka Uzen, and Mira Kamiunten. Yuuki, concerned that the votes will now be split, turns his attention to Varvara who non-verbally informs him that they must now make their move to support Kyouka.
