The Onmyou Agency is the one-hundred-and-thirty-ninth chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.

Summary[]

As Naon and Koko are presented to the election committee, Naon begins to feel disheartened, but Koko reassures her. Tenka internally swears to Aoba that she'll bring Naon and Koko home safe. As Kyouka presents her evidence about the Onmyou Agency's experiments, Ren deduces that she must have infiltrated the agency and concedes there is no way to cover it up. Yakumo remarks that she was the one who saved Naon, but when she went to visit her in the hospital she had been told she'd been transferred elsewhere. Yakumo attempts to convey her regret to Naon, but Tenka tells her to go back to her seat, suspecting that she may be trying to act promiscuous, which Yakumo denies. Ren orders Kinokuni to explain the experiments.

Kinokuni claims that the Onmyou Agency had initiated a quarantine for Humanoid Shuuki as they were unaware of the effects of the transformation and did not know if it could spread. Under the orders of the Prime Minister, the quarantine had been kept secret. Tobera points out that she was unaware of such a thing while she was Commander, to which Ren counters that she should should have been less combative with her superiors, much to Tobera's chagrin. Kinokuni expresses her regret for putting so much strain on the Humanoid Shuuki, arguing that they had to start from scratch. Reiko considers that Kinokuni revealing the truth is the right move, thought it still may hurt her credibility. Kinokuni further explains that, since the harsh treatment of the Humanoid Shuuki led to three of them escaping, the Onmyou Agency has since made improvements in how they treat their subjects. Tenka confirms the truth of this based on her own observation, but points out that the Humanoid Shuukis' requests to see their families are still being ignored. Ren and Kinokuni argue that the Humanoid Shuuki must still undergo long-term treatment and that exposing them to the public is too risky. Indignant, Mira argues that the Humanoid Shuuki should still be allowed to see their families. Fubuki asks why this information was kept from them, to which Ren replies that there was no need for them to know and she decided to shoulder the burden on her own, which impresses Konomi and Iori.

Moving on, Kyouka points out that the Onmyou Agency has been testing the conversion of Shuuki as weapons on uninhabited islands, which was also unknown to the Anti-Demon Corps. Ren counters that Kyouka has also previously used her own ability to use Shuuki as weapons. Kyouka goes on to raise many other questions about the Onmyou Agency's experiments, which Ren and Kinokuni answer without difficulty. Kyouka concludes her questioning and Ren remarks that if they could ask the Thunder Gods about Mato there would be no need for experimentaiton.

Kyouka then asks what Ren plans to do to compensate Naon and Koko and the other Humanoid Shuuki for their suffering. Ren merely replies that she will do her best to communicte with the other Chiefs going forward. Yuuki observes that Ren is completely unfazed and Mira appears frustrated by the revelations. Riu considers that, while the explanations about the Onmyou Agency's activities made sense, it could result in significant changes, as she observes Fubuki looking contemplative. The assembly concludes with the agreement that Naon and Koko will share a room with Tenka.

In the Shangri-La hot spring, Ren tells Tenka that the reveal about the Onmyou Agency alone won't be enough for her to lose the election. Tenka admits she is fine with that, knowing that Ren has done nothing that would completely tarnish her reputation. Ren tells Tenka she will forgive this transgression against her, but demands Tenka obey her going forward. Tenka denies her request, stating she will be supporting Kyouka going forward and will do so out of love. Tenka exits the bath, leaving a dumbfounded Ren behind.

Later, in their bedroom, Ren asks Bell what she thinks of the Onmyou Agency. Bell admits that the reveal caught her off guard, but she understands Ren's reasons for keeping it secret. Confident, Ren states her reputation won't be ruined and she will keep her Commander seat until she becomes Prime Minister.

Six days remain until the election and registration for candidacy begins the following day.
