In the Wake of Shangri-La is the one-hundred-and-twenty-seventh chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.
Summary[]
After the defeat of Fukuma and Rairen, Kyouka, Varvara, and Bell report to Ren who commends them for their victory. Even so, Kyouka remarks that is was a very close fight and the Thunder Gods should not be taken lightly. Ren shrugs the comment off and takes notice of Yuuki. Ren then changes the subject, suggesting that Bell could defeat all the remaining Thunder Gods. Bell is initially shocked by the comment, but then confidently asserts that she will try her best. Seeing that Bell does not need the aid of the 7th Unit anymore, Ren orders her to return to the 3rd Unit to assist the other members. Ren commends Kyouka for training Bell so well, while Varvara praises Kyouka internally. Ren dismisses Kyouka and Varvara to have a checkup, but orders Bell and Yuuki to stay behind.
Kyouka and Varvara wait outside in the hallway and, suddenly, Kyouka congratulates Varvara on her victory over a God and hugs her vigorously. Varvara is utterly shocked and overwhelmed by Kyouka's praise and nearly faints. The two are then met by Tenka who congratulates them on their victory, but Kyouka seems to notice something peculiar about Tenka.
Inside Ren's office, Ren knocks Yuuki to the ground, asking why he was starting at her. Yuuki explains that one of the Thunder Gods transformed into her, but the pressure of her presence was very difference from Ren's. Please by his explanation, Ren sits on Yuuki's back while praising herself. She praises Yuuki as well when Bell confirms that he was helpful in the battle.
Later, at the 7th Unit dorm, Kyouka informs Yuuki that no abnormalities were found during their checkup. The two then discuss the Thunder Gods within Yuuki, agreeing that, while they pose no threat, Yuuki should keep their presence a secret to avoid being experimented on. Kyouka brings herself close to Yuuki and, surprisingly, leans in to kiss him, even though she is not obligated to give a Slave reward. Yuuki is confused and Kyouka is utterly mortified, explaining that it just felt like the natural thing to do since she rewards him so much. Kyouka tries to dismiss the incident, saying that Yuuki should think of it as advance payment, and takes him to begin their training.
Meanwhile, Himari and Shushu emerge from Kaiko's Miracle Care, fully recovered. Kaiko remarks that she cannot regrow Shushu's hair, which has been partially burnt off, but Himari assures Shushu she cannot regrow it with Transience.
That night, Yuuki enters his spirit world and encounters Fukuma in the guise of Konomi Tatara in a classroom setting. Fukumi bares her chest to him, asking if he wants to have "fun", but Yuuki, recognizing Fukuma immediately, rebuffs her. Kuusetsu suddenly and violently enters the room, chastising Fukuma for skipping too many steps. Fukuma observes that Yuuki is in a good mood and he explains that he is pleased that Himari and Shushu made a full recovery.
At the 8th Unit dorm, Varvara looks over her checkup report, which shows no abnormalities, but she is still concerned as she realizes her ability's output is going down.
