Varvara Pilipenko (ワルワラ・ピリペンコ, Waruwara Piripenko) is the one-hundred-and-twelfth chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.
Summary[]
The chapter begins with Varvara explaining her backstory.
She was originally born to a powerful couple in the Russian Mafia. Her parents originally spoiled her like a princess and kept the true nature of their lives hidden from her, but she eventually began to notice.
One day, she was attacked by a pair of women looking to settle a score with her parents, but she defeated them with her Peach ability. She reveals that her parents ran a smuggling operation in Mato and were able to acquire a peach for her. It allowed her to create a mass of darkness, surround the girls and then press them into the ground.
After this encounter, she had put herself in isolation, preferring to keep her distance from everyone including her parents and her fellow students at school. While she was deciding whether or not to join her family in the underworld, she was approached by Ren Yamashiro, who informed her that she had destroyed her family's smuggling operation and made her an offer: Either go down with her parents or join her at the Anti-Demon Corps. She chose the latter.
When she joined the Corps, Ren had put her into the 7th Unit under Kyouka Uzen and, after fighting some Shuuki, Kyouka took her around town and offered her some parfait. Afterwards, she did some research on Kyouka and she came to realize that, despite Kyouka's past being worse than her, she wasn't as cold and gloomy as her. And after realizing that, she stopped being so cold and gloomy herself.
She then explains to Yuuki that, afterwards, her ability began to change. She then activates her ability, Pantheon, to demonstrate and she creates a giant cathedral, which she explains is where she worships Kyouka. Her ability then reacts with Yuuki in an unexpected way, leaving Varvara perplexed. He then apologizes to Varvara for being an eyesore, but he immediately gets yelled at by Varvara. She explains that it doesn't matter as long as Kyouka is happy. Yuuki then asks her why she is being so distant and she replies that watching her from a distance is fine.
She then apologizes to Yuuki for hating him so much. She explains that she originally hated him because of what Kyouka was made to do as a reward, but now that she sees how much he respects her, she decides to let that go, much to Yuuki's gratitude. He then asks about her ability and she replies that if the cathedral recognized him as an enemy, he would know.
Much later in the evening, Yuuki goes for a bath, only for him to spot Varvara undressing. He quickly turns away and she complains why he didn't see the sign saying that the bath was occupied, followed by her calling him a pervert and hating him once again.
Elsewhere, Fukuma, who had stolen the sign, considers that this may be a good opportunity to get close to Varvara.
