The Eighth Unit (八番組, Hachi Bangumi) is the one-hundred-and-eleventh chapter of the Mato Seihei no Slave manga.
Summary[]
As the 8th Unit and Bell Tsukiyono (actually Fukuma in disguise) enter Shangri-La, "Bell" observes that there is only one door that leads in and out. 8th Unit member Jenna Staples bemoans that there is no signal, thus precluding her from reading Jump magazine, while 8th Unit Vice Chief, Prachi Sherawat, chides her for complaining amidst the beautiful scenery. The four are greeted by Yuuki Wakura and Nei Ookawamura, the latter of whom Jenna joyfully lifts up. Yuuki greets 8th Unit Chief Varvara Pilipenko with a bow, but Varvara glares at him coldly, stating that she loathes him, much to Yuuki's distress.
Inside the dorm, Kyouka Uzen, Varvara, and "Bell" discuss the training schedule and "Bell" requests that her ability training be pushed back to the latter half of the schedule, which Kyouka agrees to. Kyouka asks if "Bell" met with Ren Yamashiro, but she replies she had already left. "Bell" then advises that the rest of the 3rd Unit will be fully healed soon and that she wishes to return to Shangri-La with them so she can become a dependable Chief. Kyouka reassures her and "Bell" bows to her. The exchange apparently leaves Varvara somewhat perturbed, but she stays silent.
The 7th and 8th Units proceed with a rigorous physical training regiment. Afterwards, Yuuki approaches Prachi and Jenna, asking them what they'd like to eat. After taking their orders, Yuuki proceeds to head back, but is suddenly stopped by the two who say they are interested in him. Jenna identifies him as Kyouka's "slave" and asks if he is an "M", to which Yuuki nervously replies that he isn't. After reassuring Yuuki, Jenna fantasizes about him having a much more aggressive personality and salivating over her and Prachi's naked breasts. Prachi then asks Yuuki if he is an interested in comedy, to which he replies he is as interested as anyone else.
A flashback sequence shows that, as a child, Prachi lived her life according to a strict self-made schedule, until her parents, concerned that she was too serious, showed her a comedy show. Prachi instantly loved it and became addicted to comedy shows, showing particular fondness for improv comics.
Yuuki tells Prachi that he regularly watches the comedy grand prix, which greatly impresses her and she tells him they will get along fine. Meanwhile, Varvara watches them from afar.
Later that evening, Yuuki, content that he has established good relations with Prachi and Jenna, now hopes to establish a good relationship with Varvara who is looking at the moon. Yuuki approaches her, but she immediately hides behind a rock and tries to evade him. He desperately asks her to explain why she hates him and pleads that he doesn't want to inconvenience Kyouka by souring the relationship between the 7th and 8th Units. Varvara finally relents and states that he will understand why she hates him once he sees her ability.
